Weddings are becoming less traditional and more non-denominational in nature due to the fact that more and more mixed religious and non religious couples are getting married and would like something a little fancier than the plain old Justice of the Peace down at the courthouse.

You can be ordained without having to have a church or belong to church related organization. There are many Internet churches that will ordain you for free and it is just as legal as being ordained by a religious organization. Search for the web sites that will ordain you and become ordained.

Once you are a legal minister you still need to file for a license to perform weddings. This is usually as simple as filling out a couple of forms at your local government office. Make sure you check with your authorities and see what you need to do to get your license. You don't have to have a chapel or small church to be a wedding minister but you do need to advertise so people can find you. The perfect solution to keeping a low overhead is to put up a website with your contact information and how far you are willing to travel to officiate a wedding ceremony.

There are plenty of free web hosting services on the Internet and the easiest to put together are called blogs. If you do a search for free blogs you will find quite a few that are very easy to design with no knowledge of codes or web design needed. Having a few different business suits and colorful robes is a plus when it comes to getting more calls. Take some pictures of you in your different looks so the couple can see what you will look like in the overall wedding party design or theme.

You will also want a couple of books that have marriage ceremony verses and inspirational vows.

Put together a small portfolio of printed verses and poems so that when you meet with the couple you can help them put together their vows if they need it.
